A Baltimore resident charged with attempted homicide received a trial date on March 7 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M Phinn

Tavon Sheppard, 29, is charged with first and second-degree attempted murder; armed robbery; robbery; first and second-degree assault; theft of $100-$1,500; use of a firearm during a violent crime, possession of a firearm with a felony conviction and having a handgun on his person in connection to an incident on June 14, 2020.

In August, Sheppard was offered a plea of life, suspending all but 30 years for first-degree attempted murder; 20 years for armed robbery; 20 years with the first five years without parole for use of a firearm during a violent crime and 15 years, the first five years without the possibility of parole, for possession of a firearm with a felony conviction. The charges were set to run concurrently.

On Sept. 20, Sheppard and his defense attorney Kenneth Man, who stood-in for Anne Stewart-Hill, rejected the prosecutor’s plea offer.

Defense attorney Man requested more time for a doctor to evaluate Sheppard’s mental health and to contact a witness who could speak to Sheppard’s doctor. Sheppard claims he was suffering a blackout at the time of the events in question.

Judge Phinn granted the defense’s request.

Sheppard’s next hearing is scheduled for March 31.

Sheppard’s trial is scheduled for June 8 with Judge Phillip S. Jackson presiding
