A Baltimore man accused of attempted murder was denied bail on Feb.18 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Phillip S. Jackson

Devin Anthony,  20 is charged with two counts of first-degree attempted murder, two counts of second-degree attempted murder, two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, use of a firearm during a felony violent crime, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, illegal possession of ammo, carrying/wearing a handgun on his person, two counts of reckless endangerment, and discharging a gun in Baltimore in connection to an incident on Sept. 14, 2021.

During a bail hearing on Friday, Judge Jackson listened as the prosecutor informed the court that the defendant pleaded guilty to a prior conviction of a loaded handgun in July 2021. The defendant was on probation when the shooting occurred.

In addition, the prosecutor added that the defendant was deemed as a threat to public safety as well as a flight risk and recommended he be held without bail.

Defense attorney, Alexis Binder, standing in for Anthony’s defense attorney, Brandon Mead, argued that the defendant denied the allegations because he claims to be a victim of the shooting himself. Binder also said the defendant is still suffering from the shooting since the bullet is still in the defendant’s body.

In addition, Binder said the victim did not identify the defendant as the shooter.

After listening to counsel, Judge Jackson denied bail, deeming the defendant a threat to public safety.

According to Baltimore Fox, on Sept. 14, 2021, officers were called to the 400 block of East Baltimore Street for reports of shots being fired. They found a 35-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound.

Anthony’s next hearing is scheduled for April 4.
