A 15-year-old Baltimore teenager charged in an attempted murder was denied bail on Feb. 10 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Philip S. Jackson.

On Thursday, Judge Jackson listened as the defendant’s defense attorney argued that the juvenile fired shots in self-defense. Her client has previously experienced incidences after school when individuals would pull a gun on him.

In this particular case, the attorney said, the ninth grader had a half-day at school and metal detectors in the building did not detect a firearm. After school, someone allegedly pulled up to the defendant in a car, pulled down the window, and fired a gun.

The defendant then returned fire, injuring two people.

The defense attorney said her client has no prior record or history of violence, asking for 24/7 lockdown with online schooling.

The prosecution argued that either the metal detectors were not functioning properly to detect a firearm or the defendant stashed it before entering the building, requesting the defendant be held without bail.

Judge Jackson deemed the defendant a threat to public safety and denied bail.
