A Baltimore man allegedly involved in a non-fatal shooting rejected a plea of three years on Jan. 26 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa Phinn.
On Wednesday, Gary Babik and his defense attorney Brandon Taylor, rejected a plea of three years for possession of a firearm with a felony conviction.
Babik, 31, is charged with possession of a firearm with a felony conviction, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, having a handgun on his person, discharging firearms, and illegal possession of ammo in connection to an incident on Jan. 12, 2020.
According to court documents, on the day of the incident, a patrol officer was parked on the 600 block of N. Rose Street when he heard shots coming from the 700 block of N. Rose Street. On arrival, the officer saw an unknown black man walking on the East side of the block, pointing at the west side of the block.
After observing the unknown black male, the officer said he heard a second gunshot that hit a wall. He also noted that he saw another unknown black male with his arm extended like he was discharging a firearm. Then the person lowered their arm and began running northbound in an alley which caused the officer to follow him but could not see him anymore.
Moments later, two other officers saw an unknown black man running out of the alley, which was later identified as the defendant.
Babik’s trial is scheduled for June 29.
