Homicide Defendant’s Competency Eval Results Expected Wednesday

A 36-year-old Baltimore man who was ruled incompetent to stand trial two years ago for attempted murder is undergoing another mental health competency evaluation.

Lamont Wood is charged with first and second-degree attempted murder, first and second-degree assault, firearm use during a felony violent crime, use of an assault weapon, having a handgun on his person, and discharging firearms in connection to an incident on Jan. 21, 2019.

Wood was ruled incompetent to stand trial in November 2019; however, a new competency ruling is expected on Dec. 8.

During reception court on Dec. 6, defense attorney Anne Stewart-Hill and the prosecution informed Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn that Wood’s case appeared in mental health court on Dec. 2, with a competency ruling scheduled for this Wednesday.

No plea offer has been made at this time.

Judge Phinn scheduled the defendant’s case to return to reception court on Dec. 13. If he is found competent, Wood’s case will move forward in reception court, and if incompetent, Wood’s case will remain in mental health court.
