Two non-fatal shooting cases are set to return to Baltimore City Circuit Court next month.
One of the defendants, 33-year-old Hughie Martin, is charged with attempted second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, felony use of a firearm in a violent crime, having a handgun on his person, having a handgun in a vehicle, and discharging firearms.
On Monday, the prosecution presented a plea of 15 years, suspending all but four to nine years, and forfeiting all firearms, and no contact with the victim for first-degree assault. If the defendant accepts this offer, all other charges will be dismissed.
Defense attorney Gregory Jones, who was filling in for defense attorney Warren Brown, said that this offer was previously rejected, adding that Martin’s case needs a postponement due to Brown’s temporary absence.
Judge Melissa M. Phinn granted the postponement and asked counsel to come back to reception court on Nov. 8 when they will decide on a trial date.
The other defendant, 26, is charged with drug possession with the intent to distribute, drug distribution in possession of a firearm, having a handgun on his person, and discharging firearms.
The prosecution said that the offer was three years, suspending all but 18 months, two years supervised probation after release, and registering as a gun offender for having a handgun on his person.
Defense attorney Koryn High said that she was unable to relay this plea to the defendant since he is currently on an extended probation from a 2018 case, which prompted her to ask for a postponement.
Judge Phinn would not grant the postponement and set the case to return to reception court on Nov. 22 before Judge Emanuel Brown.
