A baltimore man accused of attempted murder was offered plea deal Oct. 18 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn.
Dante Oakley, 24 is charged with first and second-degree attempted murder, first and second-degree assault, use of a firearm in a violent crime, and having a handgun within 100 years of the public in a connection to an incident on Nov. 28, 2020.
Judge Phinn listened as the prosecution presented a plea of life suspending all but 25 years with three years supervised probation for first-degree attempted murder.
Oakley and his defense attorney, Todd Oppenheim, rejected the plea. In addition, Oakley decided to maintain his Hick’s date, which is his right to be tried within 180 days of his first court appearance.
According to the Baltimore Sun, on Nov. 28, 2020, officers responded to reports of gunshots on the 4100 block of Pennington Avenue in the Curtis Bay neighborhood of South Baltimore. On arrival officers found a 21-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds to his body.
Police noted the victim was taken to an area hospital where he was listed as being in critical condition.
Oakley’s trial is scheduled for Feb. 1, 2022 with Judge Videtta Brown presiding.
