Opening statements in a shooting case were heard before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Anthony Vittoria on Aug. 24 in a Ridgewood Avenue incident allegedly involving 19-year-old defendant Delvon Bryant.
Bryant is charged with attempted first and second-degree murder, assault first degree and firearm use in a felony/violent crime.
Charging documents indicate that on Dec 9, 2025 at about 8 p.m. officers were notified of a shooting at the 3000 block of Ridgewood Avenue.
Detectives observed three individuals exiting an alley at the scene. An armed Black male was spotted wearing all black clothing later which would be later identified as the defendant. The video shows him grabbing his left side and running. He was quickly arrested by detectives. They found a 22 caliber handgun loaded with eight cartridges allegedly a few feet from Bryant.
Patrol officers located a victim on the 3000 block of Ridgewood Avenue who sustained a gunshot wound to his left wrist. Officers observed a blood trail on the front porch. They followed the it inside the residence and to the second floor where they recovered two shell casings. Detectives were able to speak with the victim who said two unidentified individuals tried to rob him. Subsequently, he was shot by a person he knows who goes by the name “Del” who police would identify as Bryant.
During his opening statement, the prosecutor said police saw the defendant running from the scene and when caught recovered a handgun with shell casings likely matching those at the shooting. Additionally, he said the victim and the defendant were acquainted before the incident. Further, he stressed that the victim’s statement to the detectives identifies the defendant as the alleged shooter.
The defense attorney claimed the prosecution’s account is neither consistent nor logical stating that, “At a certain point it has to make sense.” He told the jury the victim changed his story several times in the course of giving his statement to police and even the detectives did not believe he was telling the truth.
The trial is to continue on Aug 25.
