Karl Anderson, who is charged with the fatal stabbing of a relative after an altercation, is close to reaching a plea agreement with the prosecution.
The prosecution is currently offering Anderson a plea offer of 30 years with five years probation for second-degree murder. Thirty years is the maximum sentence for that charge.
Anderson had previously been presented with a plea offer of 30 years for first-degree murder.
According to WBAL, the Baltimore Police Department responded to a report of a stabbing around 7:45 a.m. at the 3300 Block of Burleith Avenue on Nov. 23, 2020. When they arrived, they found the victim, Bernard Richardson, with multiple stab wounds. He was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.
Officers found Anderson a couple blocks from the scene later that day and charged him with first and second-degree murder, manslaughter, first and second-degree assault, and assault with a deadly weapon.
During reception court on Sept. 14, Anderson’s defense attorney, Sharon Dubey, told the prosecution that they are waiting for Anderson to be interviewed by a social worker before accepting the plea.
Anderson is waiving his Hick’s date of Oct. 23, which is his right to be tried within 180 days of his first court appearance under Maryland state law.
His next hearing is scheduled for Dec. 20.
