A 21-year-old man rejected a 50-year plea offer on Aug. 30 at Baltimore City Circuit Court in connection to a murder on July 22, 2020.
Kendrick Blackmon, a Baltimore resident, is charged with first-degree murder, firearm use in a violent crime, firearm possession with a felony conviction, having a loaded handgun on his person, and having a loaded handgun in a vehicle.
On Monday, the prosecution offered Blackmon a plea of life, suspending all but 50 years, and five years probation for first-degree murder. Defense attorney John Cox rejected the offer on his client’s behalf.
Judge Melissa M. Phinn scheduled Blackmon’s trial for Jan. 20, 2022 after finding good cause to waive his October Hick’s date—a defendant’s right to be tried 180 days after first appearing in court.
