Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Cynthia H. Jones denied bail on July 22 for a 16-year-old Baltimore resident who allegedly shot someone in the head and abdomen. It was not stated during the bail review hearing where or when the incident occurred or whether the victim survived the shooting.

The defense attorney argued that the defendant should be released because he is only in 10th grade. Remaining incarcerated for an extended period of time would negatively impact the boy’s education and future, according to the defense attorney.

The defendant testified that he is trying to turn his life around and is spending his time in jail reading.

However, the prosecution argued that the defendant should not be released because he is a danger to society. The prosecutor noted that the crime he allegedly committed was “quite frankly, heinous.”

Judge Jones agreed with the prosecution and ruled that the defendant remain incarcerated.
