Editor’s note: The defendant was acquitted of charges in this case.

A non-fatal shooting case that was not listed on the day’s docket was heard during postponement court at the Baltimore City Circuit Court on June 25.

Baltimore resident Anthony Ward allegedly shot a 20-year-old man on the 3600 block of Old Fredericks Road, according to the Baltimore Sun

On Oct. 30, 2019, a man riding a dirt bike hit and damaged the victim’s vehicle.

Even though Ward, 23, was not involved in the initial vehicle accident, police believe he later shot the victim. Police also said there is a possible association between Ward and the dirt bike rider.

Two months after the shooting, officers arrested Ward in Pennsylvania on a Maryland warrant.

Ward is charged with attempted first and second-degree murder, first-degree assault, firearm use in a violent crime, reckless endangerment, carrying a handgun, and discharging firearms.

During the hearing on June 25, assistant public defender Todd Oppenheim told the judge that he had difficulty contacting the prosecution. He said he was unable to obtain evidence and a list of witnesses who would be called to trial on July 21.

Judge Melissa M. Phinn scheduled a hearing for July 20 to discuss a motion to suppress evidence.
