Judge Releases Shooting Suspect in Bond Hearing

A shooting defendant was released during a bond hearing before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Dana M. Middleton, on October 14.

Steve Silver, 40, is accused of two counts of first degree assault, two counts of second degree assault and use of a firearm in a violent crime. He also faces counts of reckless endangerment and discharging a gun in Baltimore City. The incident stemmed from a drop-off with his stepdaughter’s biological dad, on August 20. .

According to court documents, on the day of the incident, police responded to a shots fired call. When they arrived on scene they found Silver who was very cooperative. However, when his stepdaughter was dropped off by her biological father, a heated argument broke out between the two men. Silver was reportedly stuck in the head by his stepdaughter’s father. In response, Silver allegedly  fired his gun in the air as a warning shot, and the victim fled.

Silvers has no prior violent history, cares for an autistic child and provides for his family. For these reasons defense attorney Akiva Gross asked that he be held on home detention, as he was already approved.

The investigator in court mentioned how Silver  was cooperative with police and believed he should be released on his own recognizance.

The state countered there were small kids nearby when the gun was fired and claimed Silver was only struck because he was reaching for the gun. The state argued Silver should be detained.

Judge MIddleton agreed that the children being present was an issue, but  denied the motion to hold Silver without bail.  He is released on his own recognizance.

The next hearing is December 1, 2026.
