In a motions hearing on Sept. 2, the defense for 43-year-old Aaron Mills failed to have his client’s case dismissed before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Althea M. Handy.
Mills is charged with two counts each of first-degree assault and use of a firearm in a crime of violence, as well as second-degree assault, assault on a law enforcement officer, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and multiple firearm and drug distribution-related offenses. The charges stem from a Dec. 28, 2025 shooting on Belair Road, where Mills allegedly retrieved firearms from a black Dodge Ram truck after an argument at Hubcap Bar & Grill on the 6000 block of Belair Road and fired several rounds toward two victims. No injuries were reported.
Defense attorney Avrohom Greenfield asked Judge Handy to dismiss the case based on a previous postponement granted by Judge Melissa K. Copeland. Greenfield questioned whether there was enough good cause for the postponement and criticized the additional time given to the prosecution.
Judge Handy denied the motion, explaining that Judge Copeland did not have to give a specific reason for the postponement as long as there were logical reasons supporting the decision.
The court partially granted a defense motion to challenge the credibility a police witness based the officer’s allegedly wrongful denial of an eviction notice.
Jury selection is underway.
