On Oct. 16, Ranell Little, 21, was sentenced to five years in prison just one day before his twenty-second birthday.
The hearing took place before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Robert K. Taylor, following Little’s guilty plea to firearm possession in a crime of violence or felony, handgun on person, and did fire and discharge any gun, pistol, and firearm.
On Jul. 8, 2026 officers had an active arrest warrant for Little for failure to appear while on probation for an attempted carjacking on July 30, 2023.
Police officers were advised that Little was on the 300 block of Light Street. Detectives arrived on scene with emergency lights engaged and Little immediately fled.
While detectives pursued Little on foot, a gunshot was heard coming from his direction. Law enforcement quickly assumed Little was both armed and dangerous.
Little, according to police, continued to run to the 300 block of S. Charles Street, where he was caught and detained. In a search of the area officers found an Omega HS-300 .22 caliber revolver.
During a police interview, officers say they found a burn hole with surrounding gun powder residue in Little’s shirt.
Before sentencing, Defense Attorney James Sweeting III, assured the court that the defendant was mentally competent to take the plea deal–meaning he understood the terms and could help his lawyer.
In sum, Little will serve five years without parole for the gun violation, and four years six months concurrent for the parole violation,
He has to register as a gun offender upon release.
