Homicides and non-fatal shootings in Baltimore City showed little change between May and June. While the total number of homicides increased by one incident, the number of non-fatal shootings stayed the same.
There were seven homicides in June, up from six in May—a 17% increase. Non-fatal shootings remained at 26 incidents in both months.
On June 10, Western District patrol officers responded to a shooting incident at the 1800 block of N. Payson Street. At the scene, officers located three, a woman and two men suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. One of them, 22-year-old Rashad Howell, later died. The others received life-saving medical treatment.
One of the homicides this month was a stabbing. On the afternoon of June 20, 56-year-old Shonda Singleton was found mortally wounded inside a home in East Baltimore. Baltimore Police Department( BPD) Eastern District officers responded around 1:40 p.m. after receiving reports of a stabbing. Singleton was taken to a local hospital, where she later died.
Police said 50-year-old Toi Stukes was served with a warrant on June 26 while being treated at a local hospital. He is charged with first-degree murder in Singleton’s death.
Baltimore Police recorded 26 non-fatal shootings in June, the same number reported in May.
On June 11, at around 3:59 p.m., officers responded to the 2400 block of Jefferson Street to investigate a reported shooting. Upon arrival, they located a 17-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a hospital and survived his injury.
Approximately two weeks later, around 10 p.m. on June 26, Northern District officers responded to a local hospital, where a man had walked in with a gunshot wound. Detectives later determined the 47-year-old had been wounded on the 2900 block of Edgecomb Circle North. His injuries were considered not life-threatening
