Cherry Hill Attempted Murder Trial Set After Plea Rejected

A 40-year-old Baltimore man charged with attempted murder was scheduled for an August jury trial after he rejected a plea deal before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland on June 22.

The defendant, Christopher Kent, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault and firearm use in a felony violent crime.

Charging documents state that on Feb. 12, officers responded to an assault on the 700 block of Cherry Hill Road, where Kent was still on the scene. After a verbal altercation with the victim, Kent allegedly left and returned to the scene with a shotgun.

The victim fought back and sustained facial injuries, including a laceration above the eyebrow and a bloody face after Kent reportedly jabbed the barrel of the shotgun at their face.

The state’s attorney offered Kent a plea offer of nine years in prison for first-degree assault and three years supervised probation for firearm use.

Kent and his defense attorney, Donald Wright, decided to reject this offer and proceed with trial.

The proceeding is set for Aug. 20 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Althea M. Handy, with two days allotted for proceedings.
