4-Year-Old Attempted Murder Case Ready For Trial

After 10 cancellations and postponements, the trial of 25-year-old Javon Hines is set to go to trial in May following an April 29 mental health court hearing before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Gale E. Rasin.

Hines is charged with several counts of attempted first- and second-degree murder and assault, as well as multiple firearm violations for an Oct. 21, 2022 non-fatal shooting incident on the 3300 block of Bayonne Avenue

According to court documents, officers were dispatched to the incident location in reference to an aggravated shooting. Upon arrival, officers observed a male victim lying in the street in front of the incident location with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. Despite his injuries, the victim was conscious and breathing.

The victim did not provide officers any information in regards to the suspect. Witnesses at the scene informed one officer that a dark-colored sedan with tinted windows had left the area where the victim was found. Three 9mm shell casings were discovered on scene.

The victim was transported to John Hopkins Hospital and was found to have sustained two gunshot wounds to his liver and right kidney. Additional officers reported to the incident location to seek potential witnesses.

One witness advised officers that a suspect nicknamed “Black” shot the victim. After conducting a search through departmental databases, Hines was said to be the person identified as “Black.”

On Nov. 16, 2022, Hines was arrested for a separate matter and allegedly possessed a Glock 48 handgun. Ballistic examinations revealed that the weapon was likely used in the Bayonne Avenue shooting.

After a thorough review the court agreed to move forward with the trial, almost four years after the initial incident.

Hines, who is represented by defense attorneys Robert Cohen and Janet Andersen, is set to stand trial on May 18 before Judge Michael A. DiPietro.
