Summer Trial Date Confirmed for Inner Harbor Shooting Suspect

A 21-year-old man suspected in an Inner Harbor shooting from last fall is now set to stand trial in June, following an April 27 scheduling hearing before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland.

Davon Matthews is charged with attempted murder, assault, conspiracy and several firearm violations for his alleged involvement in the shooting, which occurred minutes before 1 a.m. on Sept. 14, 2025.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting outside Neighborhoods Urban Goods on the 300 block of Light Street, where they located a man suffering from a gunshot wound to his right shoulder.

The crime scene yielded four .45-caliber shell casings, and detectives were able to recover surveillance footage that captured two suspects appearing to fire handguns at the victim and his group of friends. Court records haven’t provided any information regarding co-defendants.

Matthews was identified as a suspect through a still image taken from the footage. He was arrested Dec. 8, 2025, at a residence on the 2200 block of Westwood Avenue in reference to a separate shooting that occurred in Fells Point, during the early morning hours of July 12, 2025.

The July incident, which occurred on the 400 block of S. Broadway, left a 24-year-old man with non-life-threatening injuries. Matthews was subsequently charged with discharging a firearm and several possession offenses, including one count of firearm possession as a minor.

While searching Matthews’ home, detectives allegedly discovered a loaded Springfield XD45 .45-caliber handgun with a serial number in a second floor bedroom.

Matthews is now set to be tried for the Inner Harbor shooting on June 22. Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge M. Brooke Murdock will preside over the three-day trial.

Meanwhile, court records show that Matthews’ trial for the Fells Point shooting will begin May 4 before Judge Martin P. Welch.
