The trial of Nathan Jackson, 39, got underway on March 12 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Cynthia H. Jones, with counsel delivering opening arguments.
Jackson faces nine charges, including attempted murder, assault and multiple gun violations. These counts originate from an incident that occurred March 17, 2025, on the 5600 block of The Alameda in Northeast Baltimore.
The event reportedly began as a verbal argument between Jackson and his neighbor outside their homes, which then escalated into a physical altercation. Jackson is accused of attempting to shoot his neighbor in the head but missed.
During the initial investigation, officers reviewed CCTV footage of the altercation and concluded that the suspect did not appear to have used a gun. Consequently, they decided not to charge Jackson at that time.
However, more than a month later, the victim filed a complaint with police and after an investigation led them to issue a warrant for Jackson’s arrest.
The state’s attorney asserted that the case fundamentally centered on “gun violence,” telling the jurors that Jackson not only tried to shoot the victim but also physically assaulted her, inflicting a cut on her lip.
Defense attorney Karyn Meriwether stated, “The case was driven by speculation—there’s zero evidence.”
Meriwether contended that the victim’s inconsistent statements undermined her credibility as a witness and pointed out that surveillance footage contradicted her account.
The trial is set to continue on March 13.
