Eyewitness Testifies in Cousin’s Fatal Stabbing Trial

An eyewitness testified on Feb. 20 in the trial of a man accused of fatally stabbing his cousin at a Charles Village gas station last November.

Terrance Jennings, 37, is charged with first-degree murder, two counts of assault and reckless endangerment for the death of Deandre Yelverton, 36, which occurred Nov. 6, 2024 on the 2500 block of N. Howard Street.

In her initial statement to police, the witness reportedly told investigators she had driven to pick Jennings and Yelverton up at a bar. Prior to that, she had visited a bar and fast food restaurant with her friends, who were acquainted with the defendant and suspect.

Shortly after she picked up the pair, they allegedly began arguing, and the dispute became fatal when she parked at an Exxon gas station.

During questioning, the witness admitted to drinking alcohol prior to the pickup, and denied remembering which gas station she arrived at or what her passengers’ seating arrangement had been.

Even after counsel presented video footage of her initial statement to police, she continued to deny remembering the details leading up to the stabbing and wavered when asked if she had seen a weapon. Upon further questioning, she admitted seeing a pink knife, but could not remember when.

Closing statements are expected to occur Friday afternoon before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Catherine Chen.
