Trial Postponed in Back-to-Back Shooting, Homicide Cases From September 2024

The court decided on Feb. 11 to postpone the trial of Quontay Spinks, a 20-year-old Washington, D.C. resident accused of murdering one man and injuring another in two separate shootings that occurred more than a year ago.

Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Barry G. Williams made the ruling after Spinks’ attorney failed to appear for trial.

On Sept. 12, 2024, Baltimore Police responded to the 600 block of Light Street to find a man suffering from a gunshot to his right leg. Area surveillance footage revealed four suspects exiting a silver Toyota Corolla and attempting to rob the victim.

The victim, who had four registered guns on his person at the time, defended himself. A non-involved vehicle was also struck by the gunfire. Spinks was arrested based on ballistic and cellular evidence.

During detective interviews, Spinks allegedly confessed to driving the Corolla that day, and shooting the victim after attempting to rob him. He now faces attempted murder, assault and firearm charges for the shooting.

Two days later, on Sept. 14, 2024, surveillance cameras allegedly captured Spinks parking a dark-colored vehicle on the 700 block of Aliceanna Street, near where 36-year-old victim Antonio Peoples parked his vehicle. Multiple suspects were reportedly seen exiting with Spinks who the prosecutor says shot and killed Peoples in an attempted robbery.

Spinks, who was 19 at the time of both incidents, was arrested Nov. 1, 2024 on murder, assault and firearm charges for Peoples’ death.

Proceedings in Spinks’ cases are set to resume on Feb. 12.
