Jurors returned a unanimous guilty verdict on Halloween, Oct. 31, for a Baltimore man accused of murdering 33-year-old Garfield Redd in Baltimore’s Charles North neighborhood last May.
The verdict was reached after several hours during which jurors reviewed video evidence claiming to capture 20-year-old defendant Montay Brown’s actions leading up to and following the fatal shooting. Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge LaZette C. Ringgold-Kirksey presided over proceedings in the case.
Brown was found guilty of first-degree murder and firearm use in a felony violent crime in connection to the incident, which occurred May 6, 2024 on the unit block of E. 21st Street.
The maximum penalty for first-degree murder in Baltimore City is life without parole. For firearm use in a felony crime of violence, the maximum penalty is 20 years, with a mandatory minimum sentence of five years.
Brown, who is represented by defense attorney Alex Leikus, has not yet been scheduled for sentencing.
