The attempted murder trial of Enil J. Coto-Duarte, also known as “Flaco,” was postponed on July 14 due to the assigned prosecutor being out with an injury. The case was initially heard before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Nicole K. Barmore and later transferred to postponement court before Judge Melissa K. Copeland.
Coto-Duarte, 29, is charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, first-degree assault, firearm use in a felony or violent crime, and having a loaded handgun on his person in connection to a shooting that occurred Sept. 22, 2024, at a bar on the 2700 block of E. Eager Street. The counts stem from an altercation that occurred after the victim left an afterparty at the location. Coto-Duarte allegedly followed the victim, to his vehicle.
The victim was found unconscious with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to Johns Hopkins Hospital for treatment. After regaining consciousness, he told investigators he noticed Coto-Duarte, whom he knew by the nickname “Flaco,” watching him at the bar earlier that night. He advised he did not observe anyone else in the area when he was shot. He later allegedly identified Coto-Duarte through a photo array provided by police.
An interpreter was present during the court hearing. At a previous hearing, both defense attorney Jeremy Michael Eldridge and Judge Levi S. Zaslow agreed with the prosecution’s motion for additional time to review discovery evidence related to a possible witness.
All parties agreed to reschedule the trial for Sept. 3.
