Testimonies continued in the murder trial of 28-year-old Christopher Lee on July 11.
Lee is charged with first-degree murder and felony firearm use in connection to a fatal shooting that left his girlfriend, 30-year-old Jazmyn Reed, deceased.
According to charging documents, Lee called 911 on Jan. 14, 2024, to report that Reed had been shot. Lee claimed that he and Reed had been arguing in his car when Reed allegedly reached for a handgun under the console. Reed was found with a gunshot wound to the left side of her face in Lee’s car near the third northbound exit of I-83. She was pronounced deceased after being taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center that night.
The first witness the state introduced, a forensic expert, discussed her attempts to retrieve latent prints from the firearm. Although she stated she used the best method for lifting prints, defense attorney Lawrence Greenberg questioned why other methods weren’t used after the first attempt failed.
The witness admitted there are different methods at her disposal, but determined that the original method used was the most efficient due to the texture of the firearm’s surface.
The second witness the prosecution called was one of the responding detectives to the crime scene. She discussed her attempts to use CitiWatch cameras in Baltimore City to trace the path Lee’s car may have followed before the shooting took place.
The detective said that while executing the search and seizure warrant on Lee’s car, she retrieved a firearm, which was determined to be legally owned by Lee.
The detective also stated that, in the medical examiner’s report, the gunshot wound that Reed suffered was consistent with an extremely close-range shot.
Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Althea M. Handy is presiding over this case.
