A Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Kendra Y. Ausby agreed to renew probation for 46-year-old Corey Armstrong but with a stipulation in connection to his 1997 homicide conviction following a DUI violation last year.
Armstrong was sentenced to a total of 30 years in prison for second-degree murder and handgun use in committing a crime on June 17, 1997, with a five-year probation period beginning in April. On Aug. 20, 2024, Armstrong was convicted of a DUI in Anne Arundel County, violating the terms of his probation.
During a probation hearing on July 3, defense attorney Michael Cooper requested that Armstrong be released on probation until the next hearing. The prosecution challenged this, noting that the murder charge for which Armstrong was originally sentenced distinguished his case from comparatively milder offenses.
Judge Ausby ruled in favor of the defense, releasing Armstrong on a renewed probation sentence, but placing him on GPS monitoring.
The next hearing is scheduled for Sept. 18.
