A jury has found 36-year-old Bryan Cherry guilty of attempted first-degree murder in connection to a stabbing at East Baltimore Medical Center last year.
Following a trial before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Gregory Sampson, Cherry was found guilty of attempted murder and the use of a deadly weapon with the intent to injure on June 25, nearly a year after the incident at the medical clinic on the 1000 block of East Eager Street on June 26, 2024.
No verdict was issued for charges of attempted second-degree murder as well as first and second-degree assault.
The prosecutor concluded her closing argument with a photograph of the victim lying bloodied in a hospital bed with an oxygen mask strapped to his face. The attack, during which Cherry stabbed the victim seven times, reportedly left the college student with a collapsed lung and nerve damage in one of his hands.
Defense attorney Gregory Fischer called a witness’ testimony unreliable and claimed the prosecution failed to meet their burden of proof. He noted the police investigation produced neither forensic nor DNA evidence.
Cherry is currently scheduled for sentencing on Sept. 16.
