Two co-defendants in a fatal January triple shooting appeared before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland on June 27 to receive a date for trial.

Tavon Singleton, 34, and Cassandra McRae, 36, each face over 20 charges for their alleged involvement in the shooting, including two counts each of first-degree murder, four counts each of attempted first- and second-degree murder, and various related firearm and conspiracy violations.

According to charging and police documents, at approximately 5:33 p.m. on Jan. 22, Baltimore Police responded to the 5400 block of York Road for a report of a serious shooting. Upon arrival, they located several victims suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside a Honda CRV. A crime scene was secured, and yielded ballistic evidence, suspected blood, a cellphone and clothing, along with the Honda CRV.

Victim Anntoinnette Jennings, 52, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Investigators later learned the shooting occurred following an altercation at a children’s basketball game, which Jennings had attended to watch her grandchild play.

Jennings’ 29-year-old son was also among the injured passengers. He sustained a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment and listed in stable condition. Jennings’ 11-year-old grandchild was also grazed by a projectile. The front passenger, a 33-year-old woman, was uninjured in the shooting.

Multiple witnesses positively identified McRae. Surveillance footage captured her leaving the children’s basketball game to make a phone call. She was then seen entering a grey sedan and following Jennings’ vehicle to the incident location, before exiting her car and approaching Jennings car.

At the same time, two male suspects also approached Jennings’ vehicle. One, who was later identified through witness statements and cellphone data as Singleton, fired into the vehicle. All three then fled the scene.

Officers canvassed the area and recovered surveillance footage that captured the suspects both before and after the incident. Cellphone data showed McRae and Singleton collaborating before the incident, and also placed the two at the scene.

During the hearing, counsel noted they plan to file a motion to join the two defendants’ cases for trial.

Judge Copeland set the trial for Aug. 6, before Judge Yvette M. Bryant
