Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland postponed the non-fatal shooting trial of Cephus D. Lawrence on June 24 pending further investigation.

Lawrence, 58, is charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and several firearm-related offenses in relation to a shooting that occurred last year on the 2100 block of E. North Ave.

On Oct. 29, 2024, Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officers responded to a call for a man with a gunshot wound to his right leg. A tourniquet was placed on the victim’s leg pending medics’ arrival.

According to charging documents, the victim stated he was talking to his cousin when he was shot and fell to the ground. Recovered surveillance footage shows the victim and two unidentified males standing outside when a 2014 Nissan drives by, with someone opening fire through the passenger window. Seven .45-caliber shell casings and one projectile were found near the incident location.

Officers later found that the 2014 Nissan was allegedly registered to Lawrence.

Lawrence’s two-day trial is now set to begin on July 21 before Judge Charles H. Dorsey III.
