After key witnesses failed to appear for trial, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Lynn S. Mays dismissed the case against Daquan McCray, 28, on June 17. McCray was initially scheduled to stand trial in relation to a non-fatal shooting that left one injured.

On Sept. 19, 2024, at approximately 5:45 p.m., Baltimore City Police Department (BPD) officers responded to a call from a residence in the 6600 block of Harford Road. Witnesses stated they saw two suspects approach the residence. After a brief argument broke out, McCray allegedly pulled a handgun on the individuals inside. The victim was shot in the leg once before both suspects fled the scene.

McCray initially faced multiple charges including attempted first- and second-degree murder, first-degree assault, firearm use in a violent crime, and several separate conspiracy charges.

Despite having subpoenaed multiple critical witnesses for trial, defense attorney Alex Leikus said many failed to appear in court. So the court ultimately dismissed the case.
