Gregory Jones, 26, received a July 10 homicide trial date before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland on April 21.
Prior to the hearing, the prosecutor filed a motion to dismiss two of Jones’ charges. The motion will be heard June 23 before Judge Hope Tipton.
Jones is charged with first-degree murder, firearm use in a violent crime, and related conspiracy and firearm violations in connection to the March 12, 2022, murder of Olen Smith, 42, in the Little Italy neighborhood.
Jones was arrested June 17, 2022 during a search and seizure at his residence following the incident in which Smith was allegedly shot in the 800 block of Stiles Street.
While executing the warrant, investigators allegedly located a Glock .45-caliber handgun and Jones’ iPhone, which contained pictures and conversations said to implicate him in Smith’s murder.
The prosecution offered Jones a plea of life for the charge of first-degree murder. Defense attorney Avrohom Greenfield declined the offer on Jones’ behalf.
The prosecution noted they are awaiting DNA analysis results from recovered evidence.
