Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Levi S. Zaslow rescheduled a sentencing hearing for Tavon Jones, 24, after parties were unable to agree on his sentence on April 16.
Jones faces 12 charges, including attempted first- and second-degree murder, first- and second- degree assault, firearm use in a felony or violent crime, and multiple firearm violations in connection to a shooting that occurred June 28, 2023 in the 5300 block of Valiquet Avenue, his ex-girlfriend’s residence. The shooting followed a physical dispute after Jones’ ex-girlfriend tried to kick him out. Jones fired a .38-caliber round at her, and it struck his car tire. No injuries were sustained.
Jones pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and firearm use in a felony or violent crime on Aug. 26, 2024, nearly eight months ago.
He accepted an offer of 25 years, suspending all but five, for first-degree assault and a minimum sentence of five years without parole for firearm use. Upon release, Jones will be required to register as a gun offender and maintain no contact with the victim.
Defense attorney, Bradley L. MacFee asked Judge Zaslow to consider home detention for Jones, who has already spent 400 days in detention without violations. However, counsel failed to reach a decision, leading Judge Zaslow to reset the hearing to July 16.
