On March 14 Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland set another hearing date for a juvenile defendant after the prosecution suggested  he might have fled the country.

The 17-year-old is being charged with two counts of first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime, loaded handgun in vehicle, and loaded handgun on his person for allegedly shooting Trey Sanders, 22, multiple times in the head on the 1000 block of North Eden Street on July 26, 2024. According to court documents, the defendant allegedly got into a vehicle with three other passengers, including his older brother and fled the scene.

The juvenile’s defense attorney, Deborah Levi, said she had not seen the teenager and suggested Judge Copeland issue a warrant for his arrest.

Without any knowledge on the juvenile’s whereabouts, the prosecution requested a postponement to retrieve surveillance footage of the defendant’s allegedly shooting Sanders.

However, Levi argued about the delay had nothing to do with her client’s whereabouts.

A new hearing date was set for March 28 before Judge Copeland.
