Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland granted a postponement in the jury trial of attempted murder defendant Dontae Johnson after his defense attorney, Angela Shelton requested further time for discovery of evidence. The case was transferred to Judge Copeland by Judge Cynthia H. Jones.

Johnson is charged with seven counts of attempted first-degree murder, five counts of attempted second-degree murder, six counts of firearm use in a felony or violent crime, reckless endangerment, and related firearm charges in connection to an Aug. 21, 2024, shooting that left a man injured.

According to charging documents, officers reported to the 2700 block of Spelman Road at approximately 10:49 p.m. for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, they located a 33-year-old male suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. After learning Johnson was still in the area, officers chased him until he allegedly shot at them.

Johnson is set to reappear in court on April 16 for a jury trial.
