During a plea hearing on March 3, Shaun Bullock, Jr. rejected a plea offer for the first-degree murder of five-year-old Nivea Anderson. Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Timothy J. Doory emphasized that, if found guilty by the jury, Bullock would face a maximum penalty of life in prison.
Bullock, 23, is charged with first-degree murder, first-degree child abuse resulting in severe physical injuries, and abuse of a child under the age of 18. The prosecution offered life, suspending all but between 20-to-30 years, with five years probation upon release.
After deliberation with defense attorney Andre Mahasa, Bullock hesitated when he decided to deny the plea. The prosecution withdrew the offer and stated that there were no witnesses available to schedule the jury trial for today.
According to court documents, the case was referred to Judge Melissa K Copeland and is scheduled for March 7.
