John Jay, 46, rejected a reduced plea offer before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland on Feb. 7.
On June 27, 2023, witnesses say they saw and surveillance footage from nearby CCTV cameras depicts an individual identified as Jay and his 43-year-old brother Scott Jay shooting at three black men outside the 900 block of Seagull Avenue. The status of the victims is unknown.
According to charging documents, Scott Jay previously confessed to his involvement in the incident.
For the charge of first-degree assault, the state offered John Jay 15 years instead of the maximum 25, as well as three years of supervised probation. For firearm use in a felony or violent crime, the state offered 15 years instead of 25, the first five years without parole. However, he declined.
Judge Copeland scheduled a jury trial for John Jay that will begin April 28 before Judge Martin H. Schreiber, with Brandon Thorton leading the defense.
