On Nov. 19, a 28-year-old attempted murder suspect accepted a plea deal from the prosecution for two charges of first-degree assault and firearm use in a felony or violent crime in connection to an incident on Apr. 9.

Justin Westbrook was initially charged with eight counts, including first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, firearm use in a felony or violent crime, having a loaded handgun on his person, and having a handgun in a vehicle.

For first-degree assault, Westbrook was sentenced to 20 years suspending all but seven years.

For firearm use in a felony or violent crime, Westbrook was sentenced to five years without parole. He was also sentenced to three years of supervised probation.

Attorney Thomas Rafter told Baltimore City Circuit Judge Jennifer B. Schiffer about Westbrook’s difficult past, how he cares for his family, and how he helps his community when needed.

Judge Schiffer told Westbrook to seek an anger management program as well as drug and alcohol counseling.

A family member of the victim was at present the hearing. Westbrook’s family was also in attendance.
