The Baltimore Police Department has arrested a 62-year-old man in connection to an attempted murder on Aug. 17.
Baltimore resident Herschel Cooper is charged with attempted first and second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, firearm use in a violent crime, having a loaded handgun on his person, having a handgun on his person, and discharging a firearm, according to the Maryland Judiciary website.
Around 10:20 p.m., officers were called to the 500 block of North Calhoun Street for a shot-spotter alert. A news release reported that when the officers arrived, they found a 51-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his back.
Medics arrived and took the victim to a hospital for treatment.
During their investigation, police learned from witnesses that there was a dispute between the victim and Cooper, who was later identified as a suspect.
On Aug. 31 in Baltimore City, detectives with the Warrant Apprehension Task Force arrested Cooper who was armed with a loaded handgun at the time of his arrest.
Cooper is currently being held at Central Booking.
