A 33-year-old man has been arrested for the murder of a 37-year-old man on July 5, 2021.

The Baltimore Police Department reported the arrest of Ernest Smith, 33, exactly eight months after the incident of two men being shot around 3:54 p.m. on the 1800 block of E. Lafayette Avenue, where they found 37-year-old Keith Hughes, Jr. suffering from a gunshot.

Through the course of their investigation, detectives were able to identify a suspect.

On March 22, at approximately 11 a.m., members of the Warrant Task Force arrested Smith on the 3100 block of E. Monument Street without incident.

Following his arrest, Smith was transported to the BPD Homicide Section, where was debriefed then to Central Booking, where he has been charged with first-degree murder.

Currently Ernest Smith remains at Central Booking and is waiting to see a court commissioner.
