A 32-year-old attempted murder defendant who was scheduled to go to trial ended up taking a plea deal on May 24.
Jamal Banks was charged with three counts of attempted first- and second-degree murder, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, firearm use in a felony violent crime, wearing and carrying a handgun on his person, carrying and transporting a handgun and firing and discharging a firearm.
Banks, accompanied by attorney Robert Cole, stood before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Yolanda A. Tanner and pleaded guilty to three counts of reckless endangerment, as well as single counts of having a handgun on his person and firing a gun in Baltimore City.
According to documents from the District Court of Maryland, on Aug. 27, 2023, a Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officer responded to a call at Mercy Hospital Emergency Room. He was told that there was a woman who was shot on the 100 block of Saint Paul Street and walked to the hospital for treatment. She could not identify the shooter. Banks was later identified as the suspect by detectives working on other cases, including one where Banks was a victim himself.
The sentencing has not been scheduled.
