Two co-defendants facing charges for a murder that occurred last summer were offered a plea deal on Feb. 10 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn.
Shawn Brewton, 51, and Michael Corprew, 47, are both charged with two counts of first-degree murder, use of a firearm during a violent crime, and possession of a firearm with a felony conviction in connection to an incident on Aug. 11, 2021.
Judge Phinn listened as counsel noted that discovery for both cases have been completed, allowing the prosecution to present a plea of life for first-degree murder.
Initially, Brewton pleaded guilty in 2017 for possession of a firearm with a felony conviction and was sentenced to 15 years suspending all but 12 years in prison. While Corprew was found not guilty for a 2016 trial, he was later charged with gun possession. The charge was dropped in 2017.
According to the Baltimore Sun, on Aug. 11, 2021, officers placed Brewton at the scene of two different murders, one occurring at 7:48 p.m. on the 1200 block of Cliftview Avenue. The defendant allegedly shot 41-year-old Santiago Loyal in front of a vacant home.
Later that same evening at 8:25 p.m. Brewton, along with Corprew, allegedly shot 38-year-old William Smith in the 3500 block of West Belvedere Avenue.
According to Google Maps, the estimated driving time between the two shooting locations is about 20 minutes and 6.2 miles apart.
Bretwon, who was indicted, is accused of using two different weapons in one evening when he allegedly traveled from one location to the other. Information on whether Corprew was also indictment in the case was not mentioned during the hearing.
Brewton and Corprew’s next hearing is scheduled for March 24.
