A 19-year-old Baltimore man charged with first-degree murder was found not guilty before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Lynn Stewart Mays.
Matthew Caldwell, 19, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of firearm use in the commission of a crime, first-degree assault, and conspiracy to commit first-degree assult in connection with an incident on May 5, 2020.
Caldwell, who was 17 years old at the time, was taken to central booking and was held without bail. This murder charge is linked to an incident on April 22, 2020.
On Oct. 19, 2021, the teenager rejected a plea of life for one count of first-degree murder before Baltimore City Circuit Court.
Caldwell was represented by defense attorney Brian Levy.
According to WBAL, investigators were able to identify Caldwell as a suspect in a May 12, 2020, robbery and shooting at the Royal Farms store in the 3600 block of Keswick Road. After taking money from the cash register, the assailant proceeded to open fire and shot the store clerk, according to the police.
