York Road Mass Shooting Trial in Seventh Day

The trial of Cassandra McRae, 37, and Tavon Singleton, 35 stretched into its seventh day on April 1 with final testimonies before Judge Dana M. Middleton.

McRae and Singleton share over 40 total charges for the fatal shooting of Antoinette Jennings, 52, including first-degree murder and multiple gun offenses. The incident occurred Jan. 22, 2025 on the 5400 block of York Road, after a children’s basketball game.

Following a dispute between Jennings’ family and McRae, a suspect later identified as McRae was seen entering a grey sedan and following the victim’s vehicle. After Jennings’ car stopped, the suspect allegedly approached the rear passenger side while two additional male suspects approached the driver’s side.

One of the male suspects allegedly fired several shots into Jennings’ vehicle, which was occupied by three other individuals. Jennings’ granddaughter suffered a graze wound, and her son was shot in the abdomen. The fourth passenger was uninjured. All three suspects fled the scene.

At trial, a detective testified that investigators obtained a warrant to search vehicles related to the incident. A crime lab technician recovered a projectile.

Several documents were also found, but were returned as the detective stated they were irrelevant to the case. Several pieces of clothing were found as well.

Though multiple witnesses and media outlets were on scene after the incident, few agreed to give statements regarding the investigation.

“You can ask, but you can’t force [people to come to homicide],” said a Baltimore detective. The detective later obtained warrants for McRae’s cellphone that placed her around the time and place of the crime. Subscriber information allegedly confirmed the device belonged to her.

Footage was also recovered from a dashcam in the vicinity and a Maryland Transit bus, which provided multiple angles of the gunshots entering Jennings’ vehicle.

According to defense attorney Michael Tomko, the trial is expected to conclude the morning of April 2 with closing statements.
