Witnesses Testify in McDonald’s Parking Lot Murder

The trial of 24-year-old Dajuan Heath continued on April 23 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Kendra Y. Ausby with testimony from officers and a medical examiner who investigated the case.

Heath is charged with first-degree murder, multiple firearm offenses, conspiracy and armed robbery in connection to a homicide that occurred last August in a McDonald’s parking lot.

On Aug. 9, 2025, 38-year-old Briane Gaye was riding his scooter on the 2500 block of W. Franklin Street when he got into an altercation with Heath and his suspected accomplice, 17-year-old Tristin Cofield.

Gaye was shot multiple times in the struggle, and the suspects allegedly took his scooter and fled. Officers arrived on scene to find Gaye lying face down and unresponsive.

An assistant medical examiner testified that Gaye sustained gunshot wounds to his chin, left arm, and along the right side of his body, including on his face, shoulder, and chest. The wound on his left arm was fatal, having struck an artery.

During the investigation, detectives said they received a tip that named Heath as a suspect and revealed his whereabouts. Detectives were able to track down Heath’s mother, who identified him in surveillance footage as a person said to be the suspect wearing a tan sweatshirt.

Heath was detained leaving a University of Maryland rehabilitation hospital. When questioned, he allegedly admitted to participating in the robbery.

The defendant, who is represented by defense attorney Derrick Hamlin, will return to Baltimore City Circuit Court on April 24.
