On Nov. 9, a 49-year-old triple murder defendant appeared in Baltimore City Circuit Court to receive a new trial date from Judge Dana M. Middleton.

Marvelle Worsley is charged with three counts of first-degree murder, four counts of firearm use in a felony violent crime, one count of attempted first-degree murder, having a loaded handgun on his person, having a handgun on his person and firearm possession with a felony conviction in connection to an April 1, 2023, incident.

The prosecution and Worsley’s stand-in defense attorney, Taylor Miller, requested a joint postponement. The prosecutor was waiting for forensic analysis to be completed in the case, while Worsley’s retained attorney was in a California murder trial.

The prosecutor initially asked for a trial date in May, but Judge Middleton would not schedule the case seven months out. The prosecutor explained that because this is a triple murder case, finding a date amenable to all the victims’ families and witnesses has been very difficult. Beyond that, the victim of the attempted murder had scheduled medical procedures in April that she would need to recover from before testifying.

After counsel conferred off the record, they proposed the date of April 29, 2024, which Judge Middleton agreed to.

Worsley’s trial is anticipated to last seven days.

According to a Baltimore Police Department press release, Worsley is accused of killing 41-year-old Girard Smith, 49-year-old Charles Murray, 69-year-old Darlene Briscoe and injuring a 31-year-old woman on the 3200 block of Woodring Avenue.
