Trial Date Set for Defendant Charged in 2016 Fatal Robbery Outside Popeyes

Over five years after allegedly attacking and killing an elderly man, 25-year-old homicide defendant Christopher Straham is awaiting approval on a possible plea agreement.

During reception court before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn on March 21, the prosecution offered Straham a plea of life, suspending all but 75 years, with five years of supervised probation for first-degree murder and a concurrent one year for use of a deadly weapon with the intent to injure.

Defense counsel informed the court that the state was currently seeking approval on another plea agreement, the details of which were not discussed.

As of March 21, the defendant has not accepted or rejected any plea deal from the prosecution.

A trial date was then scheduled for July 19.

Straham has appeared in mental health court multiple times to review his competency to stand trial.

In addition to the aforementioned charges, the Baltimore resident is also charged with armed robbery and attempted armed robbery after allegedly attacking, stabbing, and robbing 73-year-old Andras Horvath who was buying food at a nearby Popeye’s fast food restaurant at Highland Avenue and Pulaski Highway in East Baltimore, WBAL TV previously reported.
