Co-defendants Kateira Womack, Brian Strawder and Phillip McCoy appeared before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland on April 24 to reject their respective plea deals.

Womack, 31, rejected an offer of  80 years, suspending all but 45 years, for conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, 40 years for conspiracy to commit first-degree murder to run concurrently with the first conspiracy count, and 20 years for firearm use in a felony violent crime to run concurrently. Womack is represented by Tony Garcia.

Strawder, 32, and McCoy, 32, both rejected identical offers of 90 years, suspending all but 45 years, with five years of supervised probation for attempted first-degree murder, 45 years for a second charge of attempted first-degree murder, and 20 years, the first five years  without the possibility of parole, for conspiracy to commit first-degree murder in the first degree. All charges are to run concurrently. Strawder is represented by Josh Insley and McCoy by Brandon Thornton

The prosecution requested that all three defendants be tried at the same time, a question which Judge Copeland didn’t decide in Wednesday’s hearing. The defendants are scheduled to appear before Judge Sylvester B. Cox on June 14 for a motions hearing to determine whether they will be tried together or separately.

The parties are expected to return to Judge Copeland that same day to set a trial date depending on Judge Cox’s decision.

According to court documents from the District Court of Maryland, on Oct. 19, 2023, Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officers reported to a home on the 800 block of North Eutaw Street after a shooting. They found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound to her right thigh and two other witnesses, who were unharmed.

One of the witnesses told officers that he met Womack at the casino previously that night and had invited her to his residence, where he lived with the victim.

After letting Womack out, the witness says he turned around and saw two males believed to be Strawder and McCoy coming at him from the kitchen, one holding a gun. He then ran back up the stairs with the victim. She was shot twice in the thigh on the steps.

Based on video evidence, police believe Womack, Strawder and McCoy collaborated to target the witness when he was at the casino.
