Testimony Continues in Pimlico Road Homicide Trial

Three witness, including the responding officer and two experts, addressed the jury in a homicide trial for one of three co-defendants on June 5.

Darrean Fleming, 24, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony crime and having a handgun in the vehicle for a homicide that occurred on Dec. 7, 2022. His co-defendants include Wesley Lambert, who has already been found guilty for two counts of first-degree murder, as well as Garry Morris, who will be tried later in the summer for his alleged involvement in the murder.

During the second day of trial, the prosecution brought in a former Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officer who responded to the crime scene. His body camera footage showed him finding shell casings along with the body of 20-year-old Amare Burruss on the 4200 block of Pimlico Road.

Defense attorney Michael Tomko asked why he did not knock on the door of a row house in the vicinity of where the body was found. The officer said he did not remember if he knocked on the door or other homes in the area.

The prosecution also brought in two expert witnesses, an assistant medical examiner at the Office of Chief Medical Examiner, as well as a BPD weapons expert.

The medical examiner said there was an entrance gunshot wound to the top of the head. The direction the bullet traveled was downward, ending in the soft tissue of the left upper chest, however there was no exit wound.

According to the weapons expert, casings on the scene matched a Glock 45 and a Glock 19. It was unclear which gun was used to fire at Burruss, the expert said.

Fleming’s trial is scheduled to continue before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Troy K. Hill June 6.
