Shooting Defendant Accepts Plea for Possessing a Handgun in His Vehicle

On Aug. 1, a defendant accepted a plea for unlawfully having a loaded handgun in his vehicle before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Cythina H. Jones.

Defendant Kwand Williams and his defense counsel Jennifer Kafes accepted a plea of three years, suspending all but nine months with three years of supervised probation for having a loaded handgun in his vehicle.

According to court documents, witnesses alerted officers of one round being discharged around the 300 block of Stricker Street. Williams had arrived at the scene in his car shortly after because he claimed to have left his phone at the scene. Police officers searched his car and found a gun on the passenger seat that was registered to Williams. Security Camera footage showed the defendant pulling the same gun that was found in the car and unloading one round into a car that was driving away from the scene.

Williams, 32, was charged with two counts of having a loaded handgun in his vehicle, two counts of having a handgun in his vehicle, having a loaded handgun on his person, having a handgun on his person and discharging a firearm in connection to an incident that occurred on March 30.
