Murder Defendant Rejects Plea Offer

A Baltimore man accused of homicide rejected a plea offer on Nov.16 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa Phinn.  Anthony Sellers, 27, is charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm in a violent crime, and having a handgun on his person in connection to an incident on July 3, 2020.  Judge Phinn listened as the prosecution presented a plea of life for first-degree murder, and 20 years to run concurrently for use of a firearm in a violent crime.   Sellers and his defense attorney, Karyn Meriwether, rejected the plea.  According to the Baltimore Sun, on July 3, 2020, officers responded to reports of gunshots on the 5200 block of Cordelia Avenue in the city's Langston Hughes neighborhood where they found the body of 55-year-old Ronald Laws.  Investigators found shell casings and two live 9mm rounds at the scene, prosecutors previously said.  Sellers’ trial is scheduled for June 1, 2022, with Judge Leo Ryan presiding.  Read more »
